For 30 years (and counting!), one California machine shop has renewed its NTMA membership over and over again. That shop is Moseys, a third-generation family-run business that says it owes everything to NTMA’s community and advocacy.
Moseys owner and president, Bob Mosey, recently opened up about the value NTMA has brought to his company and his life.
Moseys: A Modern CNC Machine Shop with Traditional Roots
Moseys Production Machinists (or simply “Moseys”) is an Anaheim, California-based manufacturer offering assembly-ready precision machined parts and secondary processing services.
Founded in 1975 by Fred and Nedra Mosey, Moseys was built on a foundation of family values and craftsmanship. The AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015-certified shop remains family-owned and operated, with the founders’ son, Bob Mosey (owner and president), and grandson, Nick Mosey (CFO), carrying the tradition forward.
Moseys’ Path to NTMA Membership
It was the early ‘90s when Fred and his daughter Sheila joined NTMA. Bob didn’t pay much attention at the time; he and his brother David stayed busy in the family’s shop and didn’t concern themselves with the goings-on in the company office. That changed the day the shop received a fax from the local NTMA Chapter offering a tour of the nearby C-17 plant.
Bob and David jumped at the chance to tour the Long Beach factory, and when the visit ended, they gathered for lunch with the other NTMA Chapter members. Sitting at Bob and David’s table were Chapter President John Belzer and his father, co-owners of TCI Precision Metals. “We felt like we were sitting with royalty!” describes Bob.
Inspired by the in-person connection, Bob shook off his nerves and showed up at the next Los Angeles Chapter meeting, a roundtable-style meetup where he found a room full of manufacturing professionals eager to help one another learn, grow, and achieve success.
“We all just threw our problems up on a wall, then other members gave feedback and advice,” explains Bob. “They even welcomed a few of my ideas!”
Bob began attending weekly Chapter meetings and eventually became a board member, which led him to attend NTMA’s national conferences. From there, Bob joined select national teams before landing on NTMA’s National Executive Committee.
In 2013, two decades after his first NTMA Chapter meeting, Bob Mosey was not only running the business his father had founded but had also been named Chairman of NTMA’s Executive Committee.
Moseys Gains Growth, Community, Savings, and More with NTMA
Explore Bob’s Anaheim office, and you’ll exhaust yourself trying to count all the NTMA plaques and team awards. “A lot of shop owners will say they got their MBA from NTMA,” he says with a grin. “We knew how to machine things, but we weren’t all business people until we found NTMA—and we’re still learning!”
A regular at the organization’s national conferences, Bob still participates in roundtable discussions, discussing the latest machining news and connecting with his manufacturing community through shared ideas and insights.
“Before today’s technologies came into play, in-person events were the key way to connect and network with other machine shop owners,” Bob says. “I’m not sure Moseys would still exist if I hadn’t had the NTMA community.”
Today, NTMA’s benefits extend far beyond its national events, and Bob is happy to divulge the advantages that have enabled Moseys’ half-century of undeniable success.

“Networking is the biggest piece for me,” Bob shares. “NTMA’s Code of Ethics means we can confidently share work between members without worrying that another shop will poach our employees.”
NTMA’s ethical approach to networking provides modern CNC machine shop owners with a safe environment for sharing resources, asking questions, revealing challenges, and even building their teams. “We respect each other and would never misuse information about a fellow member’s business or customer base,” the Moseys owner explains.

“Every machine shop really should belong to NTMA—not only because of what the organization does for its members but also because of how it helps ALL machine shops,” Bob asserts. “Non-members can’t attend NTMA networking events, but they still benefit from the organization’s ongoing advocacy in Washington.”
NTMA continuously and actively lobbies Congress and the Administration on behalf of US manufacturers, seeking policies and regulations that help grow and sustain the American metalworking industry.
NTMA’s advocacy is bolstered by workforce development initiatives that enable education and training, talent recruitment and acquisition, and next-generation engagement like the National Robotics League.
Bob continues, “There are so many areas where NTMA empowers workforce development—at both the local and national levels!”

Conferences, webinars, partner events: countless members-only opportunities for learning and connecting are part of every NTMA member’s benefits.
“You can’t succeed as a modern CNC machine shop unless you show up, step up, and introduce yourself to the industry leaders you meet at these events,” Bob advises. “When you’re having trouble with a machine or tool, resources from a distributor can be tough to jumpstart. That’s when you call the top guy—the person you met at an NTMA event—and suddenly, you’re taken care of!”
With a company whose NTMA membership is 30 years old and counting, Bob Mosey knows a thing or two about maximizing the organization’s perks. “These benefits aren’t written down anywhere,” he acknowledges, “but they exist. You just have to go get them.”
